2. Certification by a standardized competency examination (For Certified Members only)
The national examination is a proctored open Bible exam. It is sent to you in a sealed envelope to be opened by the exam proctor. Although perhaps difficult to pass by a student of secular counseling techniques, it is very achievable by a student of the Bible. If you are not successful with your first attempt, you may retake the exam.
3. National referral network (For Certified and Institute Members)
Information from the application is logged into our database and posted upon the website. We do get calls from around the nation of people looking for a credible Christian counselor. Potential clients will be referred to you and as well as people may find you on NAF's website.
4. Standardized Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics is a pdf download from the Application Procedures page of this website. By signing the application, you are agreeing to abide by NAFC’s national standard of ethics. Any member who distinctly offends the Code of Ethics will be subject to the suspension of his or her credentials by the majority vote of the Board of Examiners. Any suspended member may seek reinstatement after corrective measures have been taken.
5. Opportunity for professional liability insurance (For Certified Members only)
NAFC certification has been approved with several carriers and promotes the best company and rate to its certified members. Upon certification the information for obtaining professional liability insurance will be mailed to you.
6. Assistance with development of a counselor center (For Certified Members only)
NAFC has several resources available to help you start a counseling center. Members may request an email be sent of the following items:
A. “Items to Consider” before initiating the ministry
B. Legal considerations of operating a counseling center
C. An attorney on retainer to form and file your 501c3 corporation with the IRS
D. Office procedures for a counseling center
E. Guideline sheet of fees to charge clients
7. Continuing education through recognized institutions offering on-site and distance training classes
Through a consortium of diverse Christian Colleges, Seminaries, Universities, and educational institutions continuing educational opportunities are made available to our members. Go to the Continuing Education page for a list of recommended educational institutions. Some may offer reduced rates to NAFC members, so remember to ask when enrolling.
8. Quarterly Newsletter
A quarterly newsletter will be mailed or emailed if preferred. The aim of the newsletter is toward improving the skills of NAFC members through articles from other institutions and members of NAFC. The newsletter also informs of continuing education, upcoming conferences, and counselor resources, etc.
